Plot
Four children make a mysterious discovery on their home planet that lands them lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Jude Law stars in “The Skeleton Team,” plus more stars from a galaxy far, far away. The holographic circus that entertains Neal’s younger siblings is the same as Chewbacca’s family in the infamous Star Wars (1978) holiday special.
“The Skeleton Team” is a show for kids
And that’s okay, because Star Wars has often been kid-friendly, so why not a Star Wars-themed kids’ show? But this isn’t a show about kids that’s adult-friendly, like “Stranger Things” or “Paper Girls.” It’s more like a show specifically designed for 10-year-olds, and no one else. The Skeleton Crew starts out in the suburbs.
So that was an interesting twist for a moment or two
This is a suburb from the Star Wars universe, but take away the robots and aliens and I might as well have grown up here. Unfortunately, these suburbs are populated by boring, uninteresting characters with uninteresting problems. And yes, it’s all set up for a big moment at the end of the first season, but I was so bored with this first season that I started skipping ahead halfway through, and even the last act felt easy to me.
Will it be better with Jude Law?
Maybe. But I feel like if the first season of a series is so boring that I can’t stand it, it’s unlikely to get much better anytime soon. So that’s all I’ve watched.
