Plot

the status quo is established
It’s an interesting take on the underground bunker story of a people who have survived underground for so long that a civilization has emerged within it, with traditions, myths, beliefs, rituals, and ceremonies rooted in forgotten events and the social fabric of the country. And when the status quo that maintains order is challenged, enforcement and punishment follow.
Good acting from Oyelowo, familiar faces in Rashida Jones and Will Patton
A power structure is created that creates a stratified population, figuratively and literally, from the top down in power. That’s the premise, and while it’s not entirely original (like Snowpiercer, Dark City, etc.), there’s enough novelty here that it seems like it could translate well to a TV series.
There are elaborate sets and good CGI to create a believable atmosphere
(But as you can see from the show’s poster, the guest stars are being sidelined by a regular cast, led by Rebecca Ferguson.) The show looks pretty decent, with good production values. While the skeptical mind picks up on some obvious conspiracies early on, there are mysteries that are revealed that keep me watching.
