Plot
In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But when a mysterious killer stalks Hollywood starlets, a trail of blood threatens to expose her sinister past. Hollywood star Maxine stubs out a cigarette, it’s Theda Bara, who inspired actress Pearl — and named the alligator. in Pearl (2022).

It actually reads, “Until you’re known in my industry as a monster, you’re not a star.” Maxine Minx: Do you know what happened to the last person who tried to kill me? I crushed his head. In keeping with the aesthetic of ’80s movies, the credits are followed by “Be kind rewind”; a sticker is displayed, as is the case at many video rental stores. Give Me All Your Love Screenplay: Frank Beard (as Frank Lee Beard), Billy Gibbons & Dusty Hill (as Joe Michael Hill) Performed by: ZZ Top, courtesy of Warner Records, by arrangement with Warner Music Group Film & Television Licensing.
“MaXXXine” is definitely the weakest of the three “X” movies
“MaXXXine” is a direct sequel to “X”; (unlike “Pearl” which is a bit of a loner). In it, Maxine Minx takes on a legitimate film titled “The Puritan 2”; (a sequel to “The Puritan”) and longs to finally become a real star. However, her past from the events of “X” begins to catch up with her when a detective (working for the mysterious man) also finds her in the background of “Night Climber”; murdered in Los Angeles, people around Maxine begin to die… That’s not to say it’s bad, but it lacks the real horror and novelty of “X”.
“X” was a great horror
and “can’t look away”; hung up on “The Pearl.” The person behind it all is pretty obvious, and there really are a lot of threats that can be dealt with too quickly and easily, so most of the suspense is capped. Goth is great as always, but there’s really no one else in the cast who really stands out. And there’s a real lack of real “horror”; in this movie. “The Pearl” was maybe scarier than “pure horror.” But I’m not sure “MaXXXine” even qualifies as “horror”; not at all.

And the ending… meh, I can recommend “MaXXXine” without hesitation—the story is interesting, Ti West is a great director, Maxine Minx is a great character, and Mia Goth is great in the role. But as is the case with many trilogies, the first is definitely the best, and each one has been worse. Check out what movies and TV shows are airing this month.
