A modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of West Texas oil rigs
Watch writer/director Taylor Sheridan’s most popular movies and TV shows on IMDb, ranked by user rating. A landowner, at least one who works in the oil industry, will act as a middleman between exploration companies and landowners. Typically, a landowner’s job is to negotiate and finalize contracts with landowners with mineral rights in order to lease those rights to the company they represent.

Essentially, they manage the land and secure the leases, so they can drill for oil and gas. Like a foreman on a construction site, they build roads, housing for the workers (man camp), assemble the drilling machinery, and drill the well itself, especially in remote locations. They are also, in part, troubleshooters, problem-solvers, and facilitators.

Taylor Sheridan makes his female characters very shallow even when they seem strong, so this series is no different. But, for me, the show is a success because Billy Bob steals every scene, even the ones with half-naked women! The way the oil business is described is probably very true to how the industry is run.
His female characters are hugely flawed
BB has the best lines to describe the value of oil and what makes the world (oil) go round. The sets are great, the way the rigs work is pretty enlightening. I just don’t understand why the daughter is so dumb and the wife such a loser, but I guess this is Sheridan’s style.
But for great lines and to see Billy Bob Thornton at his best, watch this show
